Library Associates Host a Barn Dance Fundraiser

4__DSC1895_BarnDance_Dining72dpiEvery year for the past 10 years the Norfolk Library Associates have held a fundraiser to offset the cost of the tent used for the annual book sale. Thanks to the generosity of Grant and Kristin Mudge, who offered the use of their barn, this year the associates decided to do something completely different—hold a barn dance, complete with drinks, dinner, country music and dancing. Over 120 people sashayed and do-si-doed to the country stylings of caller Cliff Brodeur and his band, Square One, from Pittsfield, Mass. 4__DSC1984_BarnDance_D72dpiThe beer and wine were all donated, and Michael Meehan, chef at the Country Club, prepared the food: pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw and cobbler. A team of volunteers decorated the barn, setting up chairs and tables, stringing lights and lighting torches. “Everybody pitched in to make this work smoothly,” says Louise Davis, co-president of the Library Associates. “I’ve never known a committee to be so willing, very hands-on, creative and fun.” The dance was such a success that the Library Associates hope to do this again in another two years.
