Ambulance Building Delayed

At the Farmers Market on October 11, several townsfolk were heard to comment that construction still has not begun on the ambulance building planned for the corner of Shepard Road and Route 44. This allowed the popular bi-weekly Farmers Market to continue at that site all summer and into the fall. The reason for the delay in building the ambulance building, according to First Selectman Sue Dyer, is that the bids to build it exceeded the $750,000 amount authorized by the town vote last year. The lowest bid received was for $880,000, and apparently this would cost over $1 million if broken into smaller components so that local builders could participate. The committee planning the ambulance building, headed by Ted Veling, will be reviewing the plans and getting further information on the town’s options. Revised specifications for the building may go out to bid again early in 2009.
