The Norfolk Farmers Market is on the move
Beginning Saturday, September 5 until the end of the season in October, the Farmers
Market will be held on the lawn in front of the Town Hall on Maple Avenue. It will be
the same great food, same one-of- a-kind arts and crafts and the same great people. The
Market runs every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1p.m. rain or shine.

Town of Norfolk Soccer
Norfolk offers a soccer program for school-age children, from pre-K to the sixth grade.
The fee for this program is $20 for each child and $15 for each subsequent child in the
same family. Forms can be picked up in the Botelle School office, during regular school
hours, or by contacting Eileen Hester at 542-5344.

Walk to Slab City
Saturday, September 5, meet historian and tour guide Richard Byrne at the Norfolk
Historical Society on the Village Green, at 10 a.m. for a walk to Slab City. The ‘city’ is
located up on Canaan Mountain, off Mountain Road and is on the site of a former
sawmill. It is so-called because of the wooden slabs used to build the walls of the
dwellings in the area.

Artists Reception
There will be a group show art reception on Sunday September 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the
Library. Works by artists who have attended Sam Messer’s drawing class at the Yale
Summer School of Art, will be on display.

Ensemble Music
The Hevreh Ensemble will perform at the Library on Friday, September 11 at 8 p.m. The
group performs original, contemporary American compositions by member and
composer, Jeff Adler and inspired by themes from Jewish Spirituality, World Peace and
Environmental Sustainability. Their music combines classical, jazz and world music
elements. As seating is limited, call 542-5075 for reservations. Donations are appreciated.

A Literary Brew
Folks from Literal Latte, a bi-monthly literary journal published in New York City, will
present area authors, reading from their own works at the Norfolk Library on Saturday,
September 12 at 10.30 a.m. Coffee and doughnuts will be served.

Mum’s the Word
The Norfolk Lions Club will hold its annual Mum Sale on Saturday, September 12 from
9 a.m. to noon, or until the mums are sold out. This year, the plants will be available at
the Farmers Market as well as in their usual spot at Station Place. The proceeds from the
sale benefit the Norfolk Volunteer Ambulance and other Lions Club projects.

The Point of Chinese Medicine
On Monday, September 14 at 6 p.m. at the Library, there will be a discussion about
Classical Chinese Medicine, led by Acupuncturist Joyce Schneider. The program will
focus on the Five Element Theory. Call for reservations at 542-5075.

Ashley House Tour
On Saturday, September 26, at 1 p.m. the Norfolk Historical Society will be organizing a
tour of Ashley House and the Mum Bett exhibit in Sheffield Mass. Meet at the Society’s
offices on the Green to carpool. Admission is $5. Call 542-5761 for reservations.

Norfolk Food Pantry
The Norfolk Food Pantry, located in the Battell Chapel of Church of Christ
Congregational on the Green, is open to all in need. Non-perishable foods, toiletries, as
well as Stop & Shop gift cards are welcome. Checks may be made payable to Church of
Christ, and mailed to P.O. Box 582, Norfolk, 06058. Food items always appreciated
include canned fruits and vegetables, dry cereal, jelly, juice, pasta, peanut butter,
powdered milk and canned soups. Please call the Church at 542-5721 for Food Pantry
hours.
