After a protracted period of time, the bids are now in and accepted and contracts have gone out for the town’s new emergency services building to be erected on the present site of the Farmers Market at Shepard Road and Route 44. “Everything looks very good,” says First Selectman Sue Dyer. “I think we’re golden.” The winning bid for the modular structure is Millennium Builders, with an amount of $240,000. Millenium will also take care of the exterior and some interior trim, their general trades bid for that work being $70,000. Local contractors, Blakeslee Construction, will handle the site work with a bid of $82,250 and JK Electric had a winning bid of $34,370. P & G Pepper of Torrington bid $58,650 for the foundation and plumbing and heating is to be completed by Pelletier Mechanical Services, out of Thomaston, with a bid of $91,613. The total amount of the bids was $577,573. Millennium will be working with Penn Line who will provide the modular building., and Millenium will put it up. A representative has already traveled to the factory in Pennsylvania. Project coordinator, Scott Reeve, expects to determine a start date soon. All are hopeful that ground will be broken in this month. Bumped out of their cozy spot on the site of the proposed new building, the Farmers Market, with its season running through October, will have to temporarily relocate. They are hoping to move to Maple Avenue, to the lawn in front of Town Hall. The Planning and Zoning Commission will conduct a hearing of this request on September 8 at 7.30 p.m.
