An Apple a Day

The Norfolk Lions Club will hold its annual Harvest Sale on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 8 a.m. till noon at Station Place. Apples, cider, pumpkins, baked goods and other harvest treats will be available. Proceeds from the sale will support the Norfolk Volunteer Ambulance and other Lions Club projects.

Harvest Fair

On Saturday, Oct. 17 from 10:00 a.m. until 2 p.m. the Immaculate Conception Church will be hosting their annual Harvest Fair. Enjoy crafts, baked goods, a nice lunch and find a treasure or two. If you would like to rent a table to sell your treasures, contact Chelsea Byrne at 542-1782. There are 20 vendor tables available at the cost of $25 per table.

Halloween Candy Donations

Each year on Halloween the children of Norfolk trick or treat on Maple Ave. The road is closed to traffic and volunteers from the Norfolk Fire Department patrol to keep the area safe. Once again the residents of Maple Ave. are asking for donations of candy to offset their costs. Donation bins are located at the Norfolk Corner store and Botelle School’s office.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony For Land Trust

The Norfolk Land Trust will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Killarney Bridge followed by a mushroom walk on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1:30 p.m. The bridge was erected this summer next to the old stone bridge which is no longer safe. The mushroom walk, lead by mycologist Steph Dascanio, will take place in Barbour Woods. For those uncertain of the way to the bridge, meet at the Lover’s Lane entrance at 1:15 p.m.

Flu shots

On October 9, the Immaculate Conception Church will be hosting a flu shot clinic from 10 a.m. to noon. If you are unable to make it, the Torrington Area Health District (489 0436) and Foothills Visiting Nurse (379-8561) will be hosting clinics during Oct. Tour of John Ashley House In conjunction with the summer exhibition on Norfolk’s Black history, the Norfolk Historical Society will be sponsoring a guided tour of the Col. John Ashley House in Ashley Falls on Saturday, Sept. 26. We will meet at the Norfolk Historical Museum at 1:00 to carpool. For those who wish to meet us at the Ashley House, our tour will begin between 1:30 and 2:00 and last about one hour. In order to have the necessary number of docents for the tour, we have been asked to provide our numbers in advance. Please call 542-5761 by Monday Sept. 21 to sign up for the tour.

Project Graduation Silent Auction

Northwestern Regional #7 will be holding it’s annual Project Graduation silent auction on Oct. 24, from 5 until 7 p.m. in the gymnasium. Project Graduation provides a safe drug and alcohol-free party on graduation night. Bid on services, gift baskets, local business gift cards, tools and many more prizes.

Pumpkin Decorating

On October 31, the Farmers Market will host their last market of the season. It will feature pumpkin decorating as well as offering local products and music by Josh DeCerbo. Stop by the market at it’s new location in front of Town Hall.

Cooking Class

The first of a series of cooking classes to benefit the Church of Christ Congregational will be held Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. in the chapel. Lisa Auclair, graduate of the CT Culinary Institute and owner of Sweet Ginger Culinary Services, will be teaching the group how to make homemade pasta and sauce. Aton Forest Open House

The 8th annual Aton Forest (AF) Open House will be held Saturday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will begin with a bird walk in the vicinity of a beaver pond and along portions of a bird research survey line. At noon will be the official welcome of the forest’s new officers & directors, followed by talks describing the programs offered at AF. Finally, at 2:30, we will hike into the interior of the forest.
