Barbour Woods gets a safer bridge

By Veronica Burns

On a bright, sunny day last month, the Norfolk Land Trust (NLT) got a good turnout for the ribbon-cutting ceremony held at Killarney Bridge in Barbour Woods. Alison Barbour Fox is shown about to cut the ribbon on the new bridge, which had been constructed onsite by the NLT. The old bridge can be seen in the background now, as you cross the new footbridge. Fox said that she had tried many years ago to fix up the original stone bridge, but that it was too expensive. President of the NLT, Susannah Wood, (pictured right) thanked Fox for helping preserve Barbour Woods and told the audience that, “someone said recently that this was the Central Park of Norfolk. I like that description.” There was a toast in celebration, and many at the event then headed off into the woods on a mushroom walk.
