A Sweet Fundraiser

As a fundraiser, Botelle School’s graduating 6th grade Class of 2010 will be selling homemade Christmas cookies. Purchase a box of 24 cookies, beautifully boxed for that perfect gift. Each sells for $15. Order your cookies by contacting Gwen Green at 860-542-5336 or place your order at the Norfolk Corner. The deadline is December 5 and your cookies will be ready December 18.

Florida Citrus Sale

The Church of Christ Congregational, on the Village Green, is sponsoring a sale of small and large cases of oranges and grapefruits, that will be delivered to the church directly from Florida groves. Orders must be in by December 6 and delivery will be December 12.  Small cases are $20 and large cases are $32.  Sales will benefit the church’s missions and programs. Pick up an order form from the church’s Chapel foyer, or contact the office at cchurch01@snet.net, (860) 542-5721, or PO Box 582 , Norfolk.

Hors d’oeuvres Cooking Classes

The third in a series of cooking classes and demonstrations will be held at the chapel of Church of Christ Congregational on the Village Green, on Wednesday, December 2 at 6:00 p.m. ‘Holiday Hors d´oeuvres’ will be presented by Norfolk’s Alex Persons. Alex has honed his culinary skills and styles as a vegetarian and vegan food manager, as a sous chef in professional kitchens, and in livestock management and butchery. He learned French cooking techniques at the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park. The class will include a demonstration and hands-on cooking.  Class size is limited to 15 participants. Local Food Banks are in Need

During this holiday season and with the increase of needy families, local food banks are in need of more donations. Please help by donating food to your local food bank. Things needed are spaghetti sauce, cans of soup, fruit, veggies, boxed macaroni & cheese, bottled juice and any non-perishable foods and personal hygiene products. Donations can be dropped off at Norfolk’s Church of Christ Congregational or at Open Hands on Main Street., Winsted. Many food stores also have a basket for donations.

Mitten and Glove Drive

During December, the Norfolk Library children’s room will be holding a mitten and glove drive in celebration of the 25th anniversary of Janet Bretts’ book ‘The Mitten’. Bring homemade or new mittens and gloves to the children’s room. All donations will be given to the Susan B. Anthony project at the end of December. Let’s help to make some child’s life a little warmer this winter.

Toys For Tots

The Norfolk Post Office will be conducting its annual Toys for Tots drive. Please bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Post Office from now until December 12. The U.S. Marines will distribute these toys to needy families in time for Christmas. Toys are needed for teenage children also.

Silent Auction to Benefit Local Arts Organizations.

The Time After Time consignment shop is hosting a silent auction of four art chairs in support of the arts fundraising event, Chairish the Arts. The beneficiaries will include  Norfolk-based Battell Arts Foundation Inc., the Arts Fund for Region One, After School Arts Program and the Northwest CT Arts Council.  The auction is on Sunday, December 20, with last call for bids at 3 p.m. Stop in and show your support for arts education.
