Campfire Cooking Workshop Held

Just like the old dyas: Joe Brien, an instructor in the lost arts and furniture maker, fires up the heat to get things cooking.

A Camp Fire Cooking workshop was held on Saturday, April 24 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Shelter on Golf Drive. Joe Brien of Lost Arts Workshops taught participants to make stew in a Dutch oven, broil meat over hot coals, boil water with hot rocks, and to bake biscuits and cookies in a reflective oven.
This is the first in a series of four Forest Skills Workshops sponsored by the Great Mountain Forest Corporation. Others include:
Spoon Carving, May 8 from 9:00 a.m. to noon, $15 adults, $10 children
Build a Bat Box, May 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., $20 adults, $10 children
Cordage Making, June 5, 9:00 a.m. to noon, $15 adults, $10 children
To register, email Jean Bronson at jean@greatmountainforest.org or call the forest at 860-542-5422. Children must be 8 or older and accompanied by an adult. These workshops are funded in part by grants from the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Ted Fund.
