Taxes, Garbage and Rebates

The Hazardous Household Collection day will be Saturday, October 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Torrington Waste Water Treatment Plant on Bogue Road. To sign up, please contact the Selectmen’s Office at 860-542-5829. This is great time to get rid of those items that cannot be thrown into the waste stream.
E-Collection will take place on Saturday, October 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., also at the Torrington Waste Water Treatment Plant on Bogue Road. No sign up is necessary.
The Department of Environmental Protection has new regulations regarding electronic waste. These items can no longer be thrown into the solid waste, so it is important that your electronics go to the E-Collection Site.
Litchfield Hills Council of Elected Officials is offering a new energy program for businesses, called the Business Energy Efficiency Program (BEEP). This program will offer a 50 percent rebate for the first $5,000 of improvement with a 20 percent rebate for additional project expenses, up to a maximum of $30,000. Thus the maximum rebate that can be provided for a single application is $7,500. Please contact the Selectmen’s Office for further information.
The assessors everyone to know that, per Connecticut Law, all persons in possession of any unregistered motor vehicle, ATV, snowmobile, camper or off the road construction vehicle are required to a file a declaration of personal property with the Assessor on or before November 1. This includes any motor vehicle registered out of state or in another Connecticut town, but located the Town of Norfolk on October 1, 2010.
All business owners are also required to file a declaration of personal property with the assessor on or before November 1, 2010. Failure to file any personal property declaration will result in an assignment of estimated value of your property and adding a 25 percent penalty.
