Housing Rehab Loan Program is in The Works
By Sue Dyer
The Town of Norfolk is part of a regional application to create a Regional Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program. If funded, the program could provide no-interest loans to income eligible property owners of existing homes. These loans would not need to be repaid until the house is sold, transferred or refinanced.
Eligible rehabilitation projects under this program could include wells, septic, heating updates, plumbing repairs, electrical upgrades or roofing, just to name a few. To be income eligible, property owners must have household incomes at or below 80% of the area median income. For example, a family of four would be eligible with a gross household income of $65,000 or less, a two person household $52,000 and a one person household $45,500.
In order to show demand for this program, we, the Town of Norfolk, need to gather letters from homeowners who could benefit from these rehabilitation funds. The collection of these letters is a must, because it will show the State of Connecticut a need in the area for this type of ongoing housing rehab funding. These letters should be addressed to the Selectmen’s Office, PO Box 592, Norfolk, and be received on later than April 20, 2012. If anyone has a question, please do not hesitate to call this office at 860-542-5829.
The Board of Finance will hold its public hearing on the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2012-2013 on Monday, April 30 at 7 p.m.
Tax Relief to income qualified elderly and totally disabled homeowners may be available by contacting the Assessor’s Office at 860-542-5287.
