GOING UP MARKET

by Rosanna Trestman

Norfolk’s indefatigable Farmers Market has been singled out for recognition
by two local organizations. This exposure should attract new vendors and
increase buyer traffic. As of now, potentially five new vendors will fill out the
2013 season, which kicks off on May 18.

As for kudos, the Norfolk farmers market is among an elite group of 10 such
venues invited to participate in the Farmers Market Trail, an organization
that promotes members via brochures, signage, downloadable trail maps
and the web. Their website, farmersmarkettrail.com also features local
attractions. This exposure should lure visitors to Norfolk and stimulate the
town’s economy as a whole.

The market will also participate in a Passport program sponsored by the
Northwest Chamber of Commerce. The intention is to educate the public
on the benefits of healthy food as well as to attract new customers to
community markets using the Passport as an incentive. When one collects
eight stamps from participating markets, they will be entered into a drawing
for prizes, one of which will be a $25 Veggie Check from our market.

Finally, mark your calendars for August 24, when the Norfolk Farmers
Market will mount their first annual Agricultural Fair. Stay tuned.
