New Firehouse in Planning Stage

After starting and stopping repeatedly, plans for a new fire station are once

again moving ahead. The board of finance has provisionally approved

a budget of $2 million for design and construction of the new building.

Michael Fortuna of TLB Architecture has presented concept drawings

to the Emergency Services Building Committee that reflect the current

thinking of the various stakeholders. The drawings will be presented to the

members of the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department at their meeting on May

6. Groundbreaking for the new firehouse could occur as early as spring

2014. No bond can be issued for the project without a general town vote.

The Emergency Services Building Committee’s next meetings will be at 7

p.m. on May 8 and May 22 at the Norfolk Town Hall.
