Dig Into Reading’s Kickoff Picnic

Ginny Decerbo and friends (pictured above) celebrate the library’s kickoff event for their summer reading program.
A large crowd gathered for a picnic on the library’s grounds on Friday, June 21 and enjoyed music by Al DeCant. “Dig into Reading” is the theme for the 2013 Connecticut Reads program, Governor Dannel Malloy’s annual summer reading challenge. The state-sponsored event identifies the schools throughout the state with the highest participation rates and books-per student. For their personal twist on the theme, the Norfolk Library invites children to create a special woodland creature with local artist Karen Rossi every Monday evening from June 24 to July 14, or enjoy weekly nature programs throughout the state such as “Worms for Lunch” at the Flanders Nature Center in Woodbury on July 15 at 6:30 p.m. and “Tiny Houses in the Woods” at the Pratt Nature Center in New Milford on Monday, July 22 at 6:30 p.m. Call the library for reservations, 542-5075.
