Milestones
Died: Catherine “Cay” P. Fields, at her daughter’s home in Carmel, NY, on July 11. She was a long-time resident of Norfolk, where her husband Harold Fields was born and raised. She was at various times a school board member, active in Boy and Girl Scouting, a realtor with her own Norfolk agency, President of the Norfolk Historical Society, Town Historian, and a founding member of the Norfolk Library Associates, the Battell-Stoeckel Associates, and the Norfolk Land Trust which honored her at their 2011 annual meeting in appreciation of her extraordinary contribution. Cay is survived by a son, Howard O. Fields and his wife Amy Frith of Boston, a daughter, Cathy Sacer and her husband Dr. Louis Sacer of Carmel, NY, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Died: Philip C. Jessup on August 28. Phil was a long-time resident of Norfolk whose Norfolk forebears go back seven generations. He retired here in 2000 after a distinguished career as General Counsel of International Nickel of Canada and Secretary-General Counsel of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. In Norfolk, Phil pursued his life-long love of birds. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Norfolk Summer Music Festival and the Norfolk Library, and an active and valued member of the Norfolk Land Trust for ten years. He leaves his wife of 44 years, art historian Helen Ibbitson Jessup, three children, four stepchildren and eight grandchildren.
Died: Reverend Brian Jeffries, on September 11. Ordained into the priesthood in 1973, he spent forty years serving Connecticut parishes. In 2008, he became pastor of St. Joseph’s in Canaan and The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Norfolk. He also was Chaplain of the Connecticut State Police. He is survived by sisters and brothers, many nieces and nephews, and several grand nieces and nephews.
Entered West Point: Cadet Lars Robinson entered the U.S. Military Academy on July 1 and has successfully completed six weeks of Cadet Basic Training. Robinson plans to graduate in 2017 and be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
