Workshops and a Walk at Aton Forest
Embrace the winter before it’s gone and join us for a Winter Walk in the Woods, Saturday, March 1 from 10 a.m. to noon. Opening Reception for Artist Ron Sloane
On Sunday, March 2 from 4 to 6 p.m., the Norfolk Library will hold an opening reception for Ron Sloane, whose paintings will be on view at the library during March.
Crime Forum
Norfolk’s resident trooper will discuss the rash opf recent crime in the area. The public meeting will be held in the cafeteria of Botelle School at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4.
Irish Band in Honor of Saint Patrick
On Friday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m., the Norfolk Library will hold its annual Saint Patrick’s celebration with a concert by Girsa, an all-women Irish band. Refreshments include Irish soda bread, Dubliner cheese, and traditional beverages.
Grants for Summer Cultural Programs for Youths
Grants are available to young people ages 13-21 for participation in cultural or creative summer programs—theater internships, music and art camps or language immersion programs—from the Berkshire Taconic Foundation. For details, visit the foundation’s website and look for Simple Gifts Fund. Deadline for applications is March 15.
Pancake Breakfast
The Norfolk Lions Club will host a pancake breakfast at the Botelle School cafeteria on Saturday, March 8 from 8 to 11 a.m. Breakfast will include pancakes, eggs and bacon, and all the trimmings. Tickets, available from Lions Club members or at the door, are $6 for adults and $3 for children under eight. Proceeds will benefit local youth wellness and scholarship programs.
College Scholarships Available
The Norfolk Connecticut Children’s Foundation offers college scholarships to high school seniors who are Norfolk residents. Completed applications are due no later than May 15, 2014. The application form is available on the NCCF website (www.norfolkchildren.com—click on the “Apply For a Grant” tab). Farm Day at the Norfolk Library
A group of small, local farmers will be on hand for the screening of the movie “Greenhorns,” followed by a simple farm lunch and a panel discussion. Learn about the young, emergent agricultural movement. At the Norfolk Library on Saturday, March 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit the library website for reservations.
Jazz Concert
The No Chordtet jazz quartet (saxophone, trombone, bass and drums) will perform at the Norfolk Library on Friday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. The group’s first CD has been featured on NPR’s Jazz After Hours and is available on iTunes and Amazon. For reservations and information, visit the library website.
