Second Winter Farmers Market Planned
The Norfolk Farmer’s Market held its first-ever indoor winter market at the town hall. There were local jams and jellies, greenhouse-grown shiitake mushrooms, hand-made salamis, Hudson Valley cheeses, olive oils, very local maple syrup, artisan-style breads and eggs from happy chickens. Somehow, all of this fit into the attic space that most Norfolkians know as their polling place. Above, a young woman tears off leaves of fresh lettuce, which she then will bag and weigh for her customers.
A second winter market is planned for Saturday, April 26. Local farmers, bakers and other food producers will bring meat, cheese, bread and pastry, eggs, maple syrup, jam, pickles, greens, mushrooms. The market will be held inside Battell Chapel from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Vendor details and (if necessary) cancellation due to bad weather will be posted at www.norfolkfarmersmarket.org. The market’s summer season begins on Saturday, May 17.
