Norfolk Farmers Market – Now a Tradition
Farmers, artisans and live music return to Norfolk on Saturday, May 17, in front of Town Hall as the 2014 farmers market summer season kicks off. Hours are 10 to 1 and thereís plenty of parking. Check the market web site (www.norfolkfarmersmarket.org) every week for details on who is coming with what!

Memorial Day Parade and Road Race
The Memorial Day Parade will begin from the Village Green at 9 a.m., Monday, May 26, rain or shine. The annual NVFD Road Race will be held the same day. Sign-up begins at 10 a.m. at the ball field at Mountain Road, with the race to begin promptly at noon.

Poetry and Plants at Great Mountain Forest
On Saturday, May 3, 1 to 4 p.m., Holly Torrant and Jean Bronson will instruct children in Nature Journaling. Prepayment of $10 per child is required. Contact jean@greatmountainforest.org or call 860-824-8188 for more information.
On Saturday, May 24, Susannah Wood will present “Pulling Poems from Thin Air: A Poetry Workshop” from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Both workshops are for ages 8 and up, and will take place at the Great Mountain Forest’s Childs Center, 200 Canaan Mountain Road, Falls Village CT.

Humans and their Home
“The Future of Planet Earth: A Changing Biosphere – Humans and Global Stewardship” is the title of a lecture by geologist and conservationist G. Warfield “Skip” Hobbs. Sponsored by Great Mountain Forest, it will take place Saturday, May 10 at the Norfolk Library. Reception at 5 p.m. followed by the lecture at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free, but reservations are required. Call the library at 860-542-5075 or email jean@greatmountainforest.org.

Connecticut Trails Day Hike
Bill Couch and Kate Johnson of the Norfolk Land Trust will lead a hike to Pine Mountain on Sunday, June 8 at 10 a.m. as part of Connecticut Trails Day. All skill levels are welcome and the hike is free. Meet at the Mad River trail gate off Grantville Road. Please email katebjohnson@mac.com for information.

    COLEBROOK, CT

    The annual Independence Day celebration sponsored by the Colebrook Associates will be held Friday, July Fourth in the Meeting House (Colebrook Congregational Church) at 11 am. The guest speaker will be Patti Philippon, the Beatrice Fox Auerbach Chief Curator at the Mark Twain House & Museum. Patti has served in this position since 2007 and has a master’s degree in Art History from UMass Amherst. Her talk will be: “Patriotism is usually the refuge of the scoundrel” MARK TWAIN AND AMERICAN PATRIOTISM. The program will also include a selection of patriotic songs and the traditional buffet luncheon including homemade pies on the Green. Children are invited to assemble at the Colebrook Consolidated School at 10:15 to participate in a bike parade. All are welcome to join in this tradition that has continued for many years.
