The Library’s Featured Artist
Portraits of various artists (including flutist Eugenia Zukerman, pianist Simone Dinnerstein, cellist Mstislav Rostropovich and the Shanghai and Emerson String Quartets) captured during their performances will hang at the Norfolk Library in the month of June. A reception for the artist, Dianne Engelke, will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 1.

Birding by Ear
Join Fran Zygmont, expert local birder and president of the Litchfield Hills Audubon Society, in the fields and woodlands of Aton Forest on Saturday, June 7 from 9 a.m. to noon to learn how to recognize bird calls and identify species by their song (this workshop precedes a session of Leslie Watkins’ nature journal workshop series). Historical Museum Exhibition
“From the Mills to Main Street: Irish Families in Norfolk” opens at the Norfolk Historical Museum on Saturday, June 7 and runs through October 12. The Museum is open Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. and by appointment, 860-542-5761.

Wing Masters Raptor Presentation
Licensed raptor rehabilitator Julie Anne Collier will give a raptor presentation at the Childs Center (200 Canaan Mountain Road, Falls Village) on Sunday, June 8 at 1 p.m. Space is limited and reservations are required. Suggested donations are $10 for adults, $5 for children and students and $25 for a family. No children under the age of five are allowed per request of presenter.

Naturalistic Landscaping
Join Larry Weaner, creator of native landscapes and active guest lecturer for numerous horticultural and environmental organizations, on Saturday, June 14 at 9 a.m. for a walk through the woods and fields of Aton Forest to observe managed and natural habitats. This workshop demonstrates the benefits of ecologically-based naturalistic landscaping. There will also be time to talk about participants’ land management issues. The cost is $35 per person. Drama Production and Pie Fest
On Saturday, June 21 at 5 p.m. and Sunday, June 22 at 10 a.m. there will be productions of “A Sheep in Wolf’s Clothing” at Battell Chapel. Cast members include Elizabeth Allyn, Bill Eckert, Nancy Herzig, Kristin & Grant Mudge, Tina & Erick Olsen, Sean Savoye and Karen Wilson. The productions will be followed by pie fests to bid farewell to Pastor Erick Olsen. Call the church for more information, 860-542-5721.

Field Identification of Early Season Grasses
Join Bill Moorhead at Aton Forest for a two-day plant identification workshop focusing on identification and ecology of grasses that are detectable and identifiable in the field in late spring and early summer. The workshops will be held on Saturday, June 21 and Saturday, June 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The first day is largely devoted to introductory lecture and lab, while the second day is entirely devoted to field work. Golf Outing
The Men’s Club of Immaculate Conception church hosts their annual golf tournament on Wednesday, June 25 at the Quarry View Golf Course in East Canaan. 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. $95 fee includes greens fee, cart, on-the-course refreshments and dinner afterwards at Geer Village.
