Let’s hear some positive facts

Last month’s “View From the Green” by Lindsey Pizzica Rotolo, citing an article published in the Hartford Courant, depicted the state of Connecticut in overly negative terms.

A recent bulletin titled “Connecticut Economic Review: 2014,” a publication of the not-for-profit, Connecticut Economic Resource Center (CERC), offers a useful balance to this perspective.

According to the bulletin, Connecticut ranks first in per capita income and proportion of healthy residents; second in finance and insurance jobs and production per energy unit; third in advanced-degree holders; fourth in business R&D per capita and total state productivity; fifth in low poverty levels, number of scientists and engineers, and energy efficiency; and sixth in low crime rate and most doctors per capita.

This is not to say that the state is without problems. But there is a sound foundation here on which to build.

A letter of thanks

My family would like to thank all the people who offered care and support after the death of our father, Dennis Collins. The loving kindness was much appreciated and clearly showed why Norfolk was his favorite place on earth.
