Taxes Due in July; Repaving Schedule, Tobey Stickers and Sanitary Survey
By Sue Dyer
The State of Connecticut is preparing to mill and pave Route 44 from Memorial Green to the Winchester town line. Weather permitting the contractors will begin milling on Monday July 7 at the Winchester town line and work towards Norfolk. Paving will start either July 8 or July 9. It shouldn’t take more than a week, but expect delays if you use Route 44.
Stickers for Tobey Pond and the transfer station are available to Norfolk residents at the town clerk’s office.
Real estate and automobile taxes are due in July. The last day for payment is August 1, but the tax collector’s office is open only until noon that day. Any payment made by mail must be postmarked by August 1.
As part of the annual sanitary survey of public watersheds required by Connecticut statutes, properties along roads within the watershed of the Winsted Water Works will be inspected for potential sources of pollution. The roads are Bruey , Grantville, Winchester, Schoolhouse, Beckley, Route 44 and Route 272. Access to the interior of any home or structure is not required. Inspectors will be carrying the proper IDs and copies of a letter of explanation.
