Learn to Curl
The Curling Club will be offering clinics at 10:30 on Saturday mornings throughout December. Sometimes a special event will preempt the clinic, so to check the schedule, and to sign up, go to the club’s website, www.norfolkcurlingclub.org.
American Canopy Book Talk at Library
Eric Rutkow will give a presentation at the Norfolk Library, Saturday, November 1, on his book American Canopy. Rutkow’s account of the importance of trees in the United States ranges from the Liberty Trees, where colonists gathered to plot rebellion, to Henry David Thoreau, to ongoing efforts to save the American chestnut and the American elm. Natural Resources Inventory
The Norfolk Conservation Commission has issued a new Natural Resources Inventory, containing an addendum with information—including additional species found in Norfolk and locally important farmland soils—that until now was available only on the commission’s website. Copies are available at Town Hall for $25.
Blood Drive
A blood drive sponsored by the Norfolk Lion’s Club will take place Wednesday, November 5, from 12 to 4:45 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in the Llauer Parish Center. For an appointment, call 1-800-Red Cross, or go to www.redcrossblood.org.
Wine on Ice
The Curling Club is having a wine-tasting fundraiser on Saturday, November 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Advance tickets are available via PayPal at www.norfolkcurlingclub.org, or by calling Caryn at 860-922-2057.
Nature Journaling for Children
On Saturday, November 8, horticulturist Debbie Munson, artist and teacher Holly Torrant and GMF Program Coordinator Jan Bronson will lead children, ages 8 and up, on a hike to see signs of the season and gather samples for their journals. Returning children should bring their journals along; new children will be given journals. Pre-registration and a prepayment of $10 are required. Program is from 1 to 4 p.m. at Great Mountain Forest’s Childs Center, 200 Canaan Mountain Road, Falls Village. To register, please contact jean@greatmountainforest.org or call 860-542-8188.

Visitors are welcome to come watch the competition at the Curling Club on November 14 to 16. Tickets can be purchased in advance from a club member or on the website, www.norfolkcurlingclub.org.
Live Animal Presentation with Rick Roth
Rick Roth, of Creature Teachers, a family-owned business specializing in environmental and animal education, will bring some animals to see and touch to Great Mountain Forest’s Childs Center, 200 Canaan Mountain Road, on Sunday, November 16, at 1 p.m. Learn more about wild animals who may be living in your own backyard. “Tales from Beyond” at the Norfolk Library
Ripley’s Believe-It-Or-Not meets The Munsters somewhere in The Outer Limits at the Norfolk Library on Sunday, November 16, at 5:30 p.m. This hands-on program for teens and young adults involves some unusual artifacts, such as a voodoo doll, ancient coins, old photographs and newspaper clippings; stories of curious disappearances, unsolved mysteries and purported hauntings; mind reading and ESP. And, if you can stomach it, pizza for all!
