Selectman’s Corner

By Sue Dyer

In light of the recent tragic accident involving a snow plow striking a pedestrian in Torrington, we thought it necessary to remind people that if you want to walk during a snowstorm, you need to see and be seen. Wear reflective clothing, especially if walking in poor light, and walk against traffic. If you hear something coming, move out of its direction. Snow crunching underfoot muffles the sound of town trucks, and wearing headphones will certainly make it difficult to hear them. It’s always better to walk during the day, avoiding early morning or twilight hours when visibility is at its worst. The good news is that the days are getting longer . . . spring is on its way.
