School Celebrates Its 100th Day

By Matthew O’Connell

Botelle School recently hosted a read-aloud, where an invited guest came to each classroom to read a children’s book. Many thanks to the Northwest Connecticut Chamber of Commerce and to all of our readers: in pre-K, Ben Nadeau; kindergarten, Holly Casey; first grade, Roselee Fanelli; second grade, Dianna Christinat; third grade, Mary Beth Iacobelli; fourth grade, Barbara Spiegel; fifth grade, Eileen Fitzgibbons; and sixth grade, Roberta Willis.

School Spirit Week began on Monday, February 23. Students had the option of dressing according to a different theme each day, for example: Maui Monday or Work-Out Wednesday. On Thursday each grade level wore a different color for Rock the Rainbow and participated in a whole-school picture in the gymnasium. On Friday, the PTO held its Pizza and Movie Night. Fresh homemade pizza, salad and a drink were available for purchase, and the movie shown was Mr. Peabody and Sherman, the winner of a school-wide vote.

Here are some recent events that have occurred at Botelle School. Many classrooms celebrated the 100th day of school, by doing special math activities and writing stories. Teachers met on Tuesday, February 17 during our in-service day to learn about new web-based resources for our social studies and science programs and provide input for our technology plan. Finally, our PTO-sponsored after-school program has been well attended. Classes include Movie Making, Scrabble Scramble, Sterling Silver Jewelry Making and Bringing Nature Indoors.
