This year’s Memorial Day parade was held on a perfect spring day. The fire trucks and ambulance were resplendent as usual, the cub scouts and brownies filed past with self-conscious solemnity, for the most part, and both of the featured trumpeters from the Northwest High School Band, who play Taps and its echo after the six-gun salute, were women.

The names of over two hundred veterans from Norfolk were read by Town Historian Richard Byrne at the ceremony. The memorial list is meant to include all members of the armed forces who served from World War I to the present.
