Yoga, Fitness, Dance Fitness, Zumba and Kundalini Yoga at Church of Christ
Church of Christ hosts yoga on Mondays from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., a fitness class on Tuesday nights from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and a dance fitness class every Wednesday night from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. Zumba is held on Saturday mornings from 9 to 10 a.m. and two Kundalini Yoga workshops will be held on Friday, November 20 and Friday, December 18 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. All classes are held in the chapel. Photo Exhibit at Library: “Twenty-Two North”
The photography of Rick Schatzberg will be featured at the library this month. The show, entitled “Twenty Two North,” includes shots taken along Route 22 in New York State. An opening reception for the photographer will be held on Sunday, November 1 from 4 to 6 p.m.
Firsthand Account of Everest Quake at Library
Peter Rogers will be at the library on Saturday, November 7 at 4 p.m. recounting his experiences climbing five of the seven highest peaks in the world, including Mount Everest last spring. Rogers was at Camp One in Nepal when the earthquake hit on April 25, 2015.
Veterans Day Assembly and Lunch
The annual Botelle School Veterans Day Assembly will take place on Wednesday, November 11 at 10:30 a.m. in the gymnasium. The event, honoring area veterans, includes performances by the students and gives each veteran in the audience a chance to share details of their service. The assembly is followed by a luncheon. All are welcome.
Red Cross Blood Drive: Free Infinity Tickets to Donors
On Wednesday, November 11 the Norfolk Lions Club will sponsor a Red Cross Blood Drive at the Immaculate Conception Church’s Klauer Hall from noon to 4:45 p.m. Every blood donor will receive two free tickets to a show at Infinity Hall. Donations of blood will support the Connecticut Red Cross and the Red Cross’s current efforts in North Carolina. For an appointment, call 1-800-RED-CROSS or go to www.redcrossblood.org.
Aldo Leopold’s “Sand County Almanac”: A Conversation about Conservation
The executive director of the Leopold Foundation and Dr. Gene Likens, President Emeritus of the Cary Institute, will give a talk at the library on Saturday, November 14 at 4 p.m. They will discuss one of the most highly regarded conservation books ever written, “A Sand County Almanac,” by Aldo Leopold. Mid-week Puppet Show at Library
Puppets to Go will perform, “The Last Dinosaur,” an original story about a boy activating a time machine at a natural history museum, at the library on Wednesday, November 18 at 3:45 p.m.
Citrus Fundraiser
Church of Christ’s annual citrus fundraiser takes place in November. Orders for grapefruits and navel oranges are due by November 30. The pick-up date is December 5. To place an order, call the church at 860-542-5721 or Suzanne Hinman at 860-542-5880.
NVFD Karaoke Night at Pub
The annual Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department Karaoke Night is scheduled for Saturday, November 21 from 8 p.m. to midnight at Wood Creek Pub and Restaurant. Raffle items are needed. Please bring items with you to the event, or call any member of the fire department prior to November 21. Tickets are eight dollars at the door.
“The Oregon Trail”: Author Talk and Book Signing
Rinker Buck will discuss his book, “The Oregon Trail,” at the library on Sunday, November 22 at 3 p.m. Buck traveled the length of the Oregon Trail in a covered wagon with a team of mules to bring the most important route in American history back to life. He chronicled the rich history of the trail, the people who made the migration and its significance to the country.
Carol Sing, Tree Lighting, and Santa Claus on a Fire Truck
Warm up for Christmas at the annual Carol Sing at the library on Saturday, November 28 at 5 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Then spill out to the village green for the tree lighting at 6 p.m. and await the arrival of Santa Claus on a fire truck. Donuts and hot chocolate will be provided by the fire department.
