Letters—December 2015

Congratulations to All

It was good to see the number of individuals who came out to vote on November 3. I would like to congratulate Sue Dyer and all of the other candidates who were successful. To those of us who were not, all I can say is we all need to continue to participate if we want the system to work.

I had the opportunity to meet many new friends and to talk to old friends about their vision for Norfolk. Thank you to everyone who provided me encouragement and support during my campaign.

From putting flyers on cars, allowing me to put up a sign on their lawn, sending me emails, or calling me on the phone, you all kept my spirits up and my message of leadership, communication, supporting new ideas and controlling the budget clear. I would also like to thank Norfolk Now for their articles and for hosting the debate. Communication is the key to keeping a small town going.

At the polls on November 3, I was asked by a reporter from the Waterbury Republican to provide a statement that could be used if I were to win or lose. I told her that I got into the race for first selectman as an active member of the community and, win or lose, that’s what I would be at the end of the day.

I look forward to working with all of you in the future.

—Matt Riiska

Apology

Our recent annual appeal letter unfairly slighted the significant contribution of Rosanna Trestman to the founding of Norfolk Now.  It was Rosanna’s online newspaper that gave birth to her collaboration with Lloyd Garrison, which ultimately resulted in Norfolk Now.  We apologize to Rosanna for the oversight and salute her as the co-founder of our publication.
