Historical Society Weekend Celebrates Today’s Norfolk Collectors

In conjunction with their exhibition “A Farmer, a Sportsman and a Diplomat: The Romance of Collecting in Norfolk,” the Norfolk Historical Society is sponsoring a weekend in February devoted to today’s collections.

On Friday, February12, a cocktail party at the Historical Museum will feature a group of Norfolk collectors who will share their collecting passions and show off some highlights of their collections. This will be a members-only event, so anyone interested in attending should join the society first (http://norfolkhistorical society.org/membership).

Everyone is invited to an open house at the museum on Saturday, February 13, from 10 to 2, to view a sampling of Norfolk collections and talk with collectors. Representatives of the Connecticut Historical Society will also be on hand. They will be collecting objects to feature in their spring 2016 exhibition, “Growing Up in Connecticut.” Attendees are urged to bring a favorite or significant object from their Connecticut childhood to be considered for inclusion in the exhibition. The CHS is particularly interested in toys and games, photographs, clothes, diaries and other written materials, concert ticket stubs or posters, music albums or players and school materials. Items can also be submitted online at chs.org/growingup.
