Tax Relief Available

St. Patrick’s Day Concert at the Norfolk Library: Goitse

Forged in the white-hot crucible of Limerick University’s Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, Goitse has become one of the most sought after bands among connoisseurs of Irish traditional music. Indoor Winter Farmers Market

Vendors will be selling a variety of local meats, cheeses, micro-greens and mushrooms along with an assortment of jams, jellies, pickles, eggs, baked goods and olive oil at the indoor Farmers Markets on Saturday, March 5 and Saturday, March 19, on the second floor of Town Hall, 19 Maple Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

 

Book Talk at the Norfolk Library

Author David K. Leff will speak about his latest book “Maple Sugaring: Keeping It Real in New England,” an intimate look at the art and science of America’s favorite sweet, on Saturday, March 5 at 4 p.m. at the Norfolk Library. Norfolk Artists and Friends at the Norfolk Library

This group show of works inspired by literature will include artists Kinuko and Mahlon Craft, Bruce Frisch, Tom Hlas, Anita Holmes, Adela Hubers, Wayne Jenkins, Harvey Kimmelman, Karen Linden, Janet Marks, Michaela Murphy, Ruthann Olsson, Susan Rood, Turi Rostad, and Ron Sloan. Opening reception: Sunday, March 6, 4–6 p.m.

 

Coffee Hour With Senator Witkos

Norfolk Land Trust Winter Adventure

Snowshoe, ski or hike to the Dennis Hill gazebo on Saturday, March 12 for hot cocoa and a campfire hosted by the Norfolk Land Trust. Please dress appropriately for the weather and follow the parking signs off Route 272 south. Contact June Peterson, 860-542-5040 for more information.

 

Author Talk at the Norfolk Library: Pari Forood

Pari Forood, an author of Iranian descent, will talk about her novel The Gates of Light (2015), drawn from her work on immigration legislation in the office of the Ranking Minority Member of the House Judiciary Committee in the 1980’s and inspired by her cousin harrowing escape from Iran. As part of her introduction to Persian culture, the Library will offer delectable samples of Persian-inspired fare on this eve of Norooz, the Persian New Year. Saturday, March 19 at 4:00 p.m.

 

Battell Scholarship Deadline

The next deadline for Battell Arts Foundation scholarship applications is Friday, April 1, (no fooling!). Applicants must be residents of Norfolk or Colebrook and in grades 3 through 12.  They must be currently engaged in an artistic endeavor. Norfolk Lions Club Pancake Breakfast

Norfolk Lions Club will host a pancake breakfast on Saturday, April 2 at the Botelle School Cafeteria from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Proceeds will be used to support Norfolk’s youth through scholarships & other activities.

 

Screening for Next Year’s Pre-K

Botelle School will be holding pre-kindergarten screening on Friday, April 8 at Botelle School. All children born in 2012 or on January 1, 2013, are eligible for enrollment in the pre-kindergarten program for the upcoming 2016–17 school year. College Scholarships Available

The Norfolk Connecticut Children’s Foundation offers college scholarships to high school seniors who are Norfolk residents. Completed applications are due no later than April 29, 2016. The application form is available on the NCCF website, www.norfolkchildren.com (click on the “Apply” tab and download the Scholarship Application). If you have questions or need additional information, please contact any board member.

 

Town-Wide Celebration Over Three Days in August

Save the date! August 5, 6 and 7 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) is A Weekend in Norfolk, and the whole town will be showing itself off to visitors. Norfolk Artists & Friends, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Infinity Hall, the library, the Historical Society museum, the volunteer fire department and ambulance squads, all three churches, the farmers market, the Land Trust, Great Mountain Forest, Aton Forest, the Curling Club, Rails to Trails, the Lions Club, Bottelle PTO and afterschool program…all these and more will be putting their best feet forward.
