Scrapbooks

Concerning our story in the March issue about the volunteers who maintain the Norfolk scrapbooks at the library, we need to clarify that the older volumes dating from the 19th century to the 1930s were compiled by unknown persons many years ago. These volumes were rebound in 1991 in honor of longtime librarian Barbara Allyn.

Wind Turbines

Another article in the March issue (“Colebrook Sets Tax Value of Turbines at $13.3 Million”) said that Colebrook’s grand list would increase this year by 7 percent, to $200 million. This is incorrect. Colebrook Assessor Michele Sloane has informed the newspaper that, despite the addition of the turbines, the current grand list is $183 million, 1 percent less than last year, following the October 1, 2015 revaluation of Colebrook’s taxable property. Contributing to the decrease was a court-ordered $4 million reduction in the assessment of the Metropolitan District Commission, owners of a hydro-electric dam in Colebrook and the town’s largest taxpayer. The assessment of the BNE turbines, reported at $13.3 million, has been readjusted to $13,622,500.

Winsted Diner

A false impression may have been given in our story in the October issue titled “Food is Finer at Winsted Diner.” In it we stated that the community came together to raise funds to keep the diner in operation after it was purchased by Jean Bauer. That was misleading. The community did band together to raise funds, but it was just after the fire and the building was still owned by the Radocchio family.
