The Northeastern Loggers’ Association (NELA) recently honored Henry Gundlach of Norfolk as the recipient of its 2015 Outstanding Leadership in Industry Award. NELA Chair Colleen Goodridge presented the award at the Annual Loggers’ Banquet in South Burlington, Vermont recently, in a ceremony attended by over 200 members of the Northeast’s forest products industry.

During the awards presentation, Goodridge told the audience “I’ve had the privilege of working with Henry Gundlach for several years on the NELA Board of Directors. Henry could always be counted on to be fully engaged in conversations and brain storming about how to improve our industry’s standing in the community, and how we could make our industry a more attractive option for young people. He’s donated his expertise experience to the betterment of the industry in both his home state of Connecticut, as well as our region.”

As owner of South Norfolk Lumber Company, Gundlach has been a leader in the region’s logging industry for decades. He is chairman of the Agricultural Education Consulting Committee at Northwestern Regional 7 and has worked with the foresters at Great Mountain Forest (GMF) for more than 40 years.

“Henry’s thoughtfulness and care for the woods is a hallmark of his work,” says GMF Director Hans Carlson. “He has had a key role in making GMF the showcase of management that it is. We are all grateful for what he does here, and add our congratulations for this well-deserved award.”
