Vintage cars will line the austere campus of Yale in Norfolk and the sounds of music, laughter and fun will ring out as the Fourth Annual Norfolk Classic Community Car Show moves its venue to the Music Shed parking area.

Car show organizer Marie Lowe says the new day and hours, in combination with the farmers market, will make Norfolk a destination spot on Saturday, September 17. “The new venue is really spectacular,” she says. “I think Yale’s beautiful grounds and easy parking will make this event a huge success. In addition, our local businesses continue to support this event each year.”

Put on by the Norfolk Economic Development Commission, the event will feature antique and vintage cars as well as 50/50 raffles and a silent auction. A disc jockey playing music of the vintage era will provide appropriate ambience.

The goal is to have at least 100 cars participating, to help raise funds to be donated to the Norfolk Lions Club Ambulance and the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department. Both organizations are working together to offer health and fitness services for their volunteers, and Lowe says the money raised from the car show will be used to help fund this service.

Qualified experts will judge the automobiles and award one car a Best of Show trophy, recognizing three runners-up. The trophy and a photo of the winning car and owner’s name will be on display at National Iron Bank for one year, until the next winner fills the spot. “It is a fun way to get the community together and to raise funds for Norfolk Emergency Services at the same time,” says Lowe.

The show will also feature food, drink, ice cream and music, along with a silent auction and the raffles.
