Not Your Mother’s Exercise Class

Norfolk seniors get moving with Robyn Centrella

By Joanne Hohmeister
Did you know that Norfolk provides a free exercise class for any senior citizen who wants or needs some extra exercise in their lives?  At Meadowbrook Apartments, a certified Senior Fitness Specialist (ACE) , Robyn Centrella, who also teaches in New Hartford, Torrington, Harwinton and Winsted, provides exercises to Norfolk residents.

She shows up every Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. in Meadowbrook’s dining area, puts on great music and hands out balloons, padded sticks and other equipment to help participants move their arms, legs, heads, and bodies in ways they generally don’t do.  Participants are different ages, of course, but each does what she can.  They need no uniforms, and hold on to chairs or sit down if need be.

Robyn has a contagious smile and doesn’t fault anyone who can’t keep up with the others.  At noon, it’s time to slow down, and exercisers feel wonderful and energized, having had some fun.

If you’re available on Tuesday mornings, come join us from 11 a.m. to noon on the lower floor of Meadowbrook.  The Immaculate Conception Church provides parking behind their building, which makes it convenient to enter Meadowbrook’s dining area on the lower level.  We hope to see some of you there.
