Hans Carlson Steps Down at Great Mountain Forest Director
Hans Carlson has announced his resignation as director of Great Mountain Forest Corporation (GMF) to take a directorship at Blue Hill Trust in Maine, an organization that recently purchased 2,500 acres of “overcut and poorly treated” woodlands, which Carlson looks forward to assisting in caring for and reviving.
Carlson joined the GMF staff in 2013 as a forest researcher and later became director. During his tenure he focused on conserving natural landscapes, forest management and community education. In “With your help we have accomplished a great deal since I arrived at GMF,” he says, “and I very much want to see what the future holds for the forest and its people. GMF will be successful now because all of you see this forest as a part of your lives and communities.”
Great Mountain Forest, one of the nation’s oldest conservation legacy organizations, covers 6,000 acres of forestland in Norfolk and Canaan, with a charitable mission to provide forest management and education and to support scientific research about forests and other natural resources.
