An Evening of Storytelling and Poetry
The Coffee House presents original works by local artists on Friday, March 10, at 7 p.m. in Battell Chapel on the village green. Come enjoy an evening of live storytelling and poetry readings, performed by Rosemary Gill, Jude Mead and Susannah Wood, with coffee and homemade desserts. Téada: A Concert for St. Patrick’s Day
Mark your calendars for the Norfolk Library’s annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration as the Irish band Téada fills the Great Hall with the vibrant traditional music of Ireland. Founded by Sligo fiddler Oisín Mac Diarmada, Téada incudes fiddle, button accordion, flute, guitar, bodhrán and vocals (legendary West Kerry singer and accordionist Séamus Begley). Téada was named Best Young Irish Traditional Act at the Irish Music Awards and has appeared as a frequent headliner at major music festivals around the world. Documentary Film at the Norfolk Library: “SEED”
On Thursday, March 16, at 7 p.m., there will be a special screening of “SEED: The Untold Story.” Not yet released in theaters, the film follows passionate seed keepers in their effort to protect a 12,000-year-old food legacy and maintain agricultural diversity for future generations.
Land Trust Winter Adventure
Snowshoe, ski or hike to Beech Hill in Barbour Woods on Sunday, March 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. There will be hot cocoa and a campfire at Beech Hill, hosted by the Norfolk Land Trust. Please dress appropriately for the weather and follow the parking signs to the trailhead off Lovers Lane. In the event of bad weather, this will not be rescheduled.
Documentary Film at the Norfolk Library: “Gathering Our Hearts at Standing Rock”
On Thursday, March 30, at 7 p.m., the Norfolk Library will host award-winning filmmaker Fidel Moreno at a special screening of his documentary “Gathering Our Hearts at Standing Rock.” Moreno has been to the Native American camps at the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation and filmed the unprecedented gathering of indigenous and other people united in opposition to the Dakota Access Pipeline. Moreno’s work in documentary film since 1983 has focused on the struggle of indigenous people and communities in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Central America.
Tax Relief Programs
The Assessor’s Office is now accepting applications for the State of Connecticut’s Elderly or Totally Disabled Homeowners and Additional Veterans’ Exemptions.
