Wall at Battell Stoeckel Estate Comes Down
Part of the Battell Stoeckel estate wall is being removed “as a measure of safety” according to architect, Pete Anderson. About ten sections of the wall have been removed and the remainder will be stabilized for the winter. “This section of the wall is in the worst condition,” says Anderson, “parts of it are bending in and some of it is bending out.” The stone wall that remains after these sections are taken out, will be rebuilt. “Think of it as a work-in-progress,” Anderson says. We want to look at what we’ve got and then decide on the next phase but we don’t know yet what that phase will be.” Come spring, we will probably find out. That’s when the work will likely continue.
