A Medium in Our Presence
Norfolk resident has a special gift
By Lindsey Pizzica Rotolo
Patti Sinclair recently opened a new spiritual practice called Within Reach, at 10 Station Place. Sinclair offers one-on-one or group mediumship, (a term that refers to communing with the dead), and intuitive sessions to help clients deal with the loss of a loved one. Within Reach is also a spiritual seminar and training business, offering events throughout the year.
Sinclair’s first memorable encounter with the ethereal world came in college while on a nine-week tour of Europe. Sinclair recalls, “I thought I was coming unglued. I was seeing things that I knew weren’t really there in the physical world and hearing voices of people I knew weren’t alive.” She was preoccupied by these images and voices. After returning home from Europe she spent many years trying to forget her experiences.
In 1999, Sinclair’s sister, Lisa, took a class on transformational healing at Northwest Connecticut Community College in Winsted. She would often share her knowledge of the new information she was learning. “She wasn’t trying to be a salesman for the metaphysical world,” says Sinclair. “My sister is a very practical person. I felt that if she was being attracted to these ideas, then maybe I would have someone to talk to about my experiences.”
In the spring of 2002, Sinclair took a chakra class at Full Spectrum Healing, run by Norfolk resident Nini Gridley. Part way through the class, Gridley acknowledged Sinclair’s gifts and encouraged her to use them. “She amazes me,” said Gridley.
Sinclair soon began offering readings to friends and family. In the late spring of 2002 she began doing readings at metaphysical stores throughout the tri- state area. In 2003, she and her sister studied under angel authority and author, Doreen Virtue, Ph.D and were certified as angel therapy practitioners. This training gave Sinclair the courage she needed to continue on her journey as a professional medium.
Born and raised in Norfolk, Sinclair attended the Berkshire School in Sheffield, Massachusetts, and went on to attend Gordon College, a Christian liberal arts school north of Boston. Her husband of 21 years, Michael, has been instrumental in building the business and recently scaled back his work in the construction field to manage Within Reach. They have three children, ages 9, 11 and 15.
Within Reach, established in 2004, offers training in “Intuitive Awareness” and also mediumship and angel education. These sessions and retreats are held throughout the year at local inns, such as the Mountain View and Manor House. The company will host a retreat, Angel Awakening, in May at The Angels Rest Retreat Center in Leyden, Massachusetts.
Sinclair is aware of the skepticism surrounding her work, but is undeterred in her healing efforts. “Most people who believe in God or a higher power believe the human soul lives on into some form of eternity,” she says, ” so isn’t it rational to believe the soul can have a voice as well? Witnessing the relief that comes over people when I connect them with their loved ones is the best part of my work. I’ll take all the flack from the skeptics for that joy.”
Sinclair’s first book, “Medium Rare” will be published this summer. She recently released Within Reach Mediumship Cards, a set of oracle cards to help people connect with their loved ones in spirit. Sinclair has been a guest on several radio programs including an interview with celebrity psychic and medium John Holland on his Hay House radio show, “Spirit Connections”. Sinclair will also be featured as a special guest at the Lilydale Assembly in Lilydale, New York in July of this year.
