Long Hard Winter for Woodpeckers

This tree, located on the eastern side of Route 272 in South Norfolk, appears to have provided food for many pileated woodpeckers this winter. According to wildlife biologist Jeremy Leifert, these are the largest woodpeckers in the Norfolk area, and generally dig oval-shaped holes in trees in search of food and for roosting and nesting.
