Local Election Set for November 6

Only seven contested positions

Norfolk voters will inaugurate the new AccuVote optical scan machines in the election for Norfolk Town offices on Tuesday. “I don’t expect any problems,” said Kevin O’Connor, a forty year veteran as Registrar. “It’s pretty straightforward.”

All candidates are presented as nominees of either the Republican Party (R), Democratic Party (D) or both parties (RD). The following seven positions on the ballot are contested elections, with more candidates than available slots.  First Selectman: Phyllis A. Bernard (R) and Susan M. Dyer (D); Board of Finance (two slots): David S. Torrey (R), Suzanne B. Hinman (D), Michael H. Langendoerfer (R) and E. Keith Harvill (D); Board of Education (three slots): Donna T. Rubin (RD), Joseph William Green (D), Jill A. Hall (R), Edward Jay Lockwood (D) and Stanley J. Civco (R); Board of Education (to fill a two-year vacancy): Michael A. Cyr (R) and Sally Carr (D); Board of Assessment Appeals: Elizabeth Bradford Borden (D) and Schuyler W. Thomson (R); Zoning Board of Appeals (three slots): Carl F. Gundlach (R), Harold David Potter (D), Daniel J. Green (D) and Mary J. Bazzano (R); and Zoning  Board of Appeals (two slots): Frank R. Trager (R), Buzz Bazzano Peacock (D) and Alan J. Boucher (R).

The following seven positions are uncontested: Selectman (two slots): James J. Stotler, Sr. (R) and Leo Francis Colwell, Jr. (D); Town Treasurer: Chelsea J. Byrne (RD); Tax Collector: Eleanor E. LaForge (RD); Board of Finance Alternate: Karen D. Sebach (D); Board of Finance Alternate to fill a four-year vacancy: Nina M. Ritson (R); Planning and Zoning Commission (two slots): Michele J. Sloane (RD) and Lloyd M. Garrison (D); and Planning and Zoning Commission

Alternate (two slots): Elizabeth Colt Kittredge (D) and Jeff James Torrant (R).
