Summer Activities on Many Fronts
By Matt Riiska
August 3, 4 and 5 is going to be a busy weekend in Norfolk. The Third Annual WIN Weekend is shaping up to be a fun-filled event for all. Sue Frisch and her team of volunteers have been working hard over the past year to bring in new events and bring back many of the great events from last year. One of the new events this year will be “Prom Night: The Do-Over,” put on by the Botelle School PTO. Pull out your ball gown, squeeze into that turquoise tuxedo, polish the limo and go to the prom. Check out the weekendinnorfolk.org website and make your plans for what will be a great weekend.
An energy committee has been formed to look into installing a solar farm at the town landfill site, as well as other town sites. Sue Dyer was very close to making this happen three years ago, but was stalled because of the cost of the installation of three-phase power lines to the landfill site. This issue has been resolved with the installation of the wind turbines in Colebrook and the running of the required lines on Rock Hall Road. Members of the committee are Ton Strumolo, Hartley Mead, Paul Madore, Susannah Wood and Bruce Benedetto. The committee will also be looking into other energy conservation projects.
The town plan and the charrette work are underway. The charrette meetings have been well attended with a lot of ideas coming out. Over the WIN Weekend there will be maps displayed at the Norfolk Hub, and the group is asking for your input. Remember this is our town, and we all need to participate to make it work for all of us. While you are looking for things to do over the WIN Weekend take a minute to submit your ideas for a collaborative vision on the development of the village center.
With summer going quickly there are still a lot of events to take in, including the Norfolk Artists & Friends exhibit on WIN Weekend, the Norfolk Library’s Annual Book Sale and Auction and concerts at the Battell Stoeckel Estate. Check out norfolkct.org for what’s going on in Norfolk.
