Robert Andrew Parker Prints at the Norfolk Library
The work of Robert Andrew Parker will be on display at the Norfolk Library during the month of October in a show entitled “Etchings, Lithographs, and Monotypes: W.H. Auden, Franz Kafka, and others.” Parker has been called one of the masters of late 20th century illustration. A graduate of the school of the Art Institute of Chicago, he has exhibited extensively since his first solo show in 1954, and his credits include set designs for opera and film as well as book illustrations. Please join us at the opening reception for the artist on Sunday, October 7, from 4 to 6 p.m., graciously hosted by the Library Associates.
Colebrook Holiday Fair
The Town of Colebrook is seeking vendors for its Annual Holiday Magic Fair to be held on Saturday, December 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Historic Colebrook Center. Solo Bassoon at the Library
On Saturday, Oct. 6, at 5 p.m., bassoonist Rebekah Heller will make her Norfolk debut in a concert of newly created electro-acoustic works composed for solo bassoon. Praised for her “flair” and “deftly illuminated” performances by The New York Times, Rebekah is a uniquely dynamic solo and collaborative artist. Rebekah has been a featured soloist with the Seattle Symphony, the Nagoya Philharmonic, and this season, she is looking forward to her solo debut with the New York Philharmonic. She has been Artistic Director and bassoonist of the renowned International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) since 2008, and prior to that served as Principal Bassoonist of the Jacksonville Symphony.
Andrew Thomson on Marimba and Percussion
Andrew Thomson will present a concert of his compositions for marimba and percussion on Friday, October 19, at 7:30 p.m. Thomson has earned an international reputation as a composer, performer, marimba player, and educator, and has collaborated with a variety of organizations, ranging from the internationally acclaimed choirs of Joyful Noise, Inc. to the United States Marine Corps. Thomson’s program will include work from his recent album Eeyou-Istchee, and Celtic music celebrating the re-release of his album Caraidean. John Auclair’s Next Act
The Colebrook Historical Society invites you to a social gathering on Friday, October 12, at 7 PM, featuring a presentation by our special guest, John Auclair. After a successful career running a manufacturing firm with his brothers, John had a different vision for his life. His dream was to create his own brewery. “My Next Act” traces John’s journey as he worked to make his dream a reality. The Gathering will be held at the Seymour Inn at the intersection of Routes 183 and 182A. As a special treat, he’ll be bringing some of his beers for us to sample.All are most welcome. Classic Film Night at the Library
Explore Hollywood’s extensive pre-digital canon of fantastic films, forgotten classics, and silent movies on the big screen, as the Norfolk Library classic film series continues on select Thursdays at 7 p.m. Musicals are slated for this fall, beginning Thursday, October 18, at 7 p.m. with West Side Story in honor of the Leonard Bernstein centennial. Come early (6:30 p.m.) for refreshments!

Once again the “Ripple” kids program at Church of Christ Congregational will be cooking free hot dogs for all on Halloween. We’ll also be offering free glow sticks to the younger children. Wellness Classes at Battell Chapel
Wellness classes restarting at Battell Chapel on the village green in October include: Bill Couch’s Full Body Fitness on Tuesdays at 5:30 and Kristin Mudge’s Dance Fitness on Wednesdays at 5:30. Ongoing classes include Tai Chi with Chris Kiely on Mondays at 3:30 p.m. Yoga with Heather Coon on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. and Zumba with Chris Royer on Saturdays at 9 a.m. Drop in and give these classes a try. Donate Candy for the Maple Avenue Trick-or-Treaters
Norfolk’s trick-or-treaters are again invited to Maple Avenue on the afternoon and evening of Halloween, Wednesday, Oct. 31. The Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department will shut the street to through traffic from 5 p.m. to 7 or 8 p.m., depending on the weather. Donations of candy for the households along Maple Avenue and the adjoining streets are welcomed. Candy in unopened bags may be dropped off at the following collection points: Berkshire Country Store, National Iron Bank, Norfolk Library and Botelle School. Residents of Maple Avenue, Terrace View and Emerson Street can sign up at the library for a share of the donated candy.
