Selectman’s Corner—October 2018
By Matt Riiska
Summer is over and you would think things would start to slow down. You would be wrong. Throughout September was we had many special weekends in Norfolk. The annual car show to benefit the Fire Department and Lions Club Ambulance Association, organized by Marie Lowe and her band of volunteers, enjoyed another successful year under blue skies. The Democrats had their picnic at the new Norbrook Farm Brewery. The event was well attended, but the star of the event was the brewery. The Auclairs have done a wonderful job bringing a first class facility to this area. I wish it was in Norfolk, we can always use the tax revenue. And to end the month was the Land Trust Annual Trail Race. Quite a busy month.
Upcoming events are the Congregational Church Pumpkin Fest on the green on October 13, The Lions Club Talent Show on October 24 and the Rails to Trails “Tour de Forest” on October 27, not to mention the Farmers Market, library events and concerts at Infinity. There is still plenty to do this fall.
When you squeeze in time to do your fall cleanup, there is a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, October 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stop in at the selectmen’s office for details.
With all we have in Norfolk there are still those who need our help. The NorfolkNet, which was organized approximately one year ago, is a collaborative, grassroots organization in Norfolk, committed to alleviating poverty & fostering new relationships. Norfolk NET partners include Town of Norfolk Selectman’s Office, Botelle School, Northwestern Regional High School, Saint Martin of Tours Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and Church of Christ Congregational. The winter season will be here soon. Please check out the NorfolkNet website norfolknetct.org. Your help will make a big difference in someone’s life.
