Heather Scofield Exhibit at the Norfolk Library
The landscape paintings of Heather Scofield will be on display at the library during the month of April. Scofield is part of the Kent School community, where her husband teaches art. In her work she focuses on the sculptural shapes, lines, and varied colors of trees, from birches to sycamores. Her landscapes have been described as “kinetic and bold” and “vibrating with color and movement.” Please join us for the opening reception for the artist on Sunday, April 7, from 4 to 6 p.m., hosted by the Library Associates.

Documentary Films at the Norfolk Library
On Monday, April 1, at 7 p.m., the Academy-Award winning documentary “Free Solo” (2018) will be shown on the big screen at the Library. The film recounts professional rock climber Alex Honnold’s attempts to make the first free solo climb of El Capitan’s 900-meter vertical rock face at Yosemite National Park. The documentary series will continue on Thursday, April 25, with “Time for Ilhan”(2018), a film that intimately chronicles Ilhan Omar’shard-fought campaign for state representative in Minnesota’s Senate District 60B, home to the nation’s largest Somali community. A fresh take on the old story of the American Dream, the film offers an inspiring, stereotype-busting portrait of a rising political star as she begins a bold and powerful political career. This past November, Ilhan Omar was elected to serve the people of Minnesota’s fifth congressional district, becomingthe first Somali American elected to the United States Congress.

James O’Brien, Perfecting Movement
Physical therapist James O’Brien will give a presentation at the Norfolk Library on Thursday, April 4, at 7 p.m., speaking about his new enterprise, Perfecting Movement. A specialist in orthopedic physical therapy and musculoskeletal disorders, O’Brien will demonstrate his methods for teaching people how to avoid pain through proper movement. He is board-certified through the American Physical Therapy Association, a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and a running technique specialist. Discover the Owls of New England
On Saturday, April 6, at 4 p.m. at the Norfolk Library, wildlife photographer PeterChristoph will deliver a slide presentation of his stunning photographs of owls of New England, combined with stories that entertain, educate and inspire. You’ll learn the secrets Peter uses to find and photograph eight species of owls in their natural habitat. Please call the Library at 860-542-5075 to register for this program.

Poetry Reading by Lindsay Bernal at the Norfolk Library
Please join us on Sunday, April 28, at 4 p.m. for a special poetry reading by Lindsay Bernal, a member of the Allyn family of Norfolk. A graduate of the University of Virginia, Lindsay holds an M.F.A. in Poetry from the University of Maryland, where she has coordinated the Creative Writing Program and the Writers Here and Now reading series for over a decade. She will be reading from her award-winning collection of poems “What It Doesn’t Have To Do With,” whichwon the 2017 National Poetry Series competition. A reception will follow at which her books will be for sale.
