Health Researchers Announce Benefits of Acorn Diet

A recent scientific paper has found that a diet with a large proportion of acorns is associated with extremely low blood cholesterol levels.

“We were performing blood tests on a population in the Adige Valley,” said Dr. Arnoldo Franceschi of the Alpine Nutritional Research Center in Bolzano, Italy, “and were struck by a statistical anomaly in the data. Our bell curve for cholesterol levels had a secondary bump at the lower end of the range. The samples all came from members of an Ayurvedic commune that had been eating mainly acorns for the past five years.”

Researchers at Harvard University had previously noted a slight decline in cholesterol among the counselors at a summer camp in Michigan where the flapjacks are made from hickory nut flour.

“A scientific consensus is forming in our favor,” said Dr. Franceschi in a recent blog post. “We think the evidence is incontrovertible.”

The finding surfaced at a meeting of Norfolk’s Economic Development Commission, which has already formed a committee to investigate the opportunities this finding presents to Norfolk businesses and landowners.

“I’m all for it,” says First Selectman Matt Riiska. “I think this could be great for Norfolk, especially if we jump in ahead of the curve.”
