Norfolk Land Trust Hike
As part of Connecticut Trails Day, the Norfolk Land Trust will sponsor a hike on Stoney Lonesome led by town Historian Richard Byrne on Saturday, June 1 at 10 a.m. Richard will talk about the history of the railroad, the legend of Stoney Lonesome, and his quest to find the pin that was used to haul the wreck. Please wear appropriate footwear. In the event of rain, the event will be rescheduled to June 2. Meet at the trailhead on Ashpohtag Road. 

Haystack Book Talk: “In and Out of Art School”
Nell Painter, author of “Old in Art School: A Memoir of Starting Over,” will hold a conversation with Byron Kim and Lisa Sigal, co-directors of the Yale Norfolk School of Art, at the Norfolk Library, on Sunday, June 2, at 1 p.m.

Free Six-Week Training Program
Local running coaches Margaret Alexson and Mary Reeve will host a free, women-only training program for runners and walkers planning to participate in the annual Red Dress Run for Women, a women’s 5K walk/run in West Hartford, on Saturday, July 13, designed to bring together women of all ages and abilities to achieve their personal fitness goals in a friendly, welcoming environment. The first training meeting will be at the ballpark on Mountain Road on June 4 at 5 p.m.

The Ethics of Color Lecture SeriesThe Yale Norfolk Art School ‘s public lecture series includers Susan Schuppli, “Earth Evidence,” on Friday, June 7; Aruna D’Souza, “Black and White Doesn’t Make Gray,” on Thursday, June 13; Tavia Nyong’o, “Brown Swerve,” on Thursday, June 20. All lectures are at 7 p.m. at Battell House, 20 Litchfield Road, with a reception to follow.

Invasive Plant Exchange at Norfolk Farmers Market
If you remove an invasive plant from your property, the Norfolk Conservation Commission will give you a free native plant in exchange. It’s not necessary to bring the invasive plant: just identify the plant you remove and inform us. For help with identification, see our invasive plant poster at the Norfolk Hub. A variety of native shrubs and perennials will be available. Saturday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Norfolk Farmers Market. 

Field Trip to Naumkeag
The annual library field trip, on Friday, June 9, goes this year to Naumkeag. The gracious 44-room “cottage” was designed by the architectural firm of McKim, Mead, & White, and its magnificent gardens and panoramic views of Monument Mountain make it a quintessential late 19th-century country estate. The Library will cover the cost of admission. Grand Re-Opening of the Children’s Room
Celebrate the refurbished Children’s Room with us on Sunday, June 9, from 3 to 5 p.m. We will have an owl scavenger hunt, face painting, ice cream and a special “owl cake,” made for the occasion by the Library Associates. Please join us.

Summer Reading Full Moon Blastoff
The Norfolk Library Summer Reading program, “Universe of Stories,” begins on Monday, June 17, at 6 p.m. The kick-off program, “Aliens Escape Earth” will be presented by the ScienceTellers group. Whether you like Star Wars, Harry Potter, or galactic creatures, come in a cosmic costume! Stellar sweets will be served. Information on future Monday evening summer reading programs will be on the Library website.

Annual Immaculate Conception Golf Outing
The Men’s Club of Immaculate Conception Church, Saint Martin of Tours Parish, will host its annual golf outing on Wednesday, June 26, at Quarry View Golf Course in East Canaan. The shotgun start is at 12:30 p.m. A $95 participation fee includes: greens fee, golf cart, on-the-course refreshments and dinner afterwards at Geer Village. Non-golfers may attend the buffet dinner at 5 p.m. for $25  Contact Russ O’Connor at 860-542-5317 or Ron Zanobi at 860-542-5159 for more information.

Public Input Sought for Town Plan
The Town of Norfolk has scheduled a public session to receive comments and input from Norfolk residents on the update of the 2009 Plan of Conservation and Development. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 27, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Town Hall. The draft plan is available at norfolkct.org/planning-and-zoning-commission/. Comments may also be emailed before June 27 to norfolkplan@gmail.com.

Textile Exhibit and Open House
The Colebrook Historical Society invites you to an open house on Sunday, June 9, from 3 to 5 p.m., featuring our new exhibit of handmade rugs, blankets, quilts and clothing, “The Fabric of Our Lives.” Plenty of refreshments will be on hand.  All are most welcome.The Open House will be held at the home of the society, the Seymour Inn, located at the intersection of Routes 183 and 182A in Colebrook Center.  

Country Music in Colebrook
Amy Gallatin and her band, Stillwaters, will perform acoustic country music and bluegrass on Sunday, June 23, at 3 p.m.The concert will be held at the Colebrook Congregational Church on the green in Colebrook Center at the intersection of Routes 183 and 182A. Suggested donation is $10. Alll are most welcome.

Norfolk Lions Club Lobster Sale
Lobsters, either steamed or live, may be picked up on Saturday, July 6, between 3 and 5 p.m., at the ambulance building. The cost is $15 each. For tickets, call John Funchion at 542-5298 or Matt Riiska at 542-5236.
