Flag Tribute on Village Green for Our Soldiers

The effect was immediate. A colorful and poignant display of 51 American flags on Norfolk’s village and memorial greens was a stirring reminder of what Memorial Day stands for. It was a fitting and moving tribute to all of Norfolk’s 51 brave citizens who have sacrificed their lives serving their country in the armed forces.
To finance the acquisition of Norfolk’s 60 flags, the Norfolk Community Association’s recently appointed Co-Presidents, Doreen Kelly and Barry Webber, secured a grant from the Evan Hughes Memorial Trust. To keep their business local, they researched and sourced the American-made flags through a Connecticut based company. With help from a few members of the Norfolk town crew, the flags were installed on Thursday, May 23, and remained in place for 10 days. Look for them to reappear the week of Veteran’s Day.
One could not help but notice the many motorists who slowed to view the fluttering flags as they rounded the bend past Whitehouse on Greenwoods Road, temporarily calming the pace of traffic, an added benefit to our town.
