Jazz Concert at the Norfolk Library
The Dinuk Wijeratne Trio (Dinuk Wijeratne on piano, Nick Halley on drums and Jon Suters on bass) will perform an exciting concert of jazz/world music at the library on Thursday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m. Dinuk Wijeratne is an award-winning Sri Lankan-born Canadian pianist, composer and conductor. Drummer/percussionist and composer Nick Halley has performed and recorded with a wide range of musicians including American icon James Taylor, whose small band includes both Halley andseasoned bassist Jon Suters. Haystack Book Talks: Writers in Conversation
Literary conversations on a wide range of topics will be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 4, 5, and 6, in downtown Norfolk. Susan Rand Paintings at the Library
Susan Rand had her first solo exhibition at the Norfolk Library in 1999. Her subject matter is rooted in the local scenery and rural New England architecture, particularly barns and outbuildings. She has shown her paintings throughout Connecticut and the East Coast and has held several artist residencies at the Vermont Studio Center. She lives with her family in Salisbury.Please join us for the opening reception on Sunday, Oct. 6, from 4 to 6 p.m., hosted by the Library Associates.

John Fernandez: “Exit Stage Right!”
During the last 35 years, producer John Fernandez has worked with such amazing artists as Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim, ballet dancer Mikhail Barishnikov, Carnegie Hall savior and violinist Isaac Stern, jazz greats Sarah Vaughn and Ella Fitzgerald, and Frank Sinatra. In “Exit Stage Right!” Fernandez will share his his adventures and misadventures in the world of entertainment. The evening will be hosted by the Colebrook Historical Society on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. at the Seymour Inn, at the intersection of Routes 183 and 182A in Colebrook. Norfolk Land Trust Hunter’s Moon Walk
Do you know the folklore behind the hunter’s moon? Did you know it’s also known as a “blood moon”? Find out more about the hunter’s moon when you join the Norfolk Land Trust for a special evening hike at 6:15 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13, to the Dennis Hill Pavilion to view the full moon. Hartley Mead will lead and give a brief talk on what is visible in the night sky at this time of year. Please gather outside the gate to Dennis Hill State Park off Route 272 South. Bring headlamps and wear appropriate attire. In the event of rain, this event will be cancelled.

Makerspace Open House: “Celebrate Our Diversity”
All are welcome to the October Norfolk Makerspace Open House from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Battell Chapel, 12 Village Green. This month we celebrate ourdiversityas makers, from young to young at heart, hobbyist to professional, and so much more. “Tribal Justice” With Director Anne Makepeace
On Saturday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m., director Anne Makepeace will introduce her film “Tribal Justice.” The film documents the efforts of tribal courts in this country to create alternative systems based on traditional, community-healing concepts of justice, focused on restoring rather than punishing offenders. Given this country’s staggering incarceration rates, the tribal system offers a thought-provoking alternative. Director Anne Makepeace will join the audience for a conversation at the end of the film.

 “The Collector,” an Opera by Georgia Johnston
On Sunday, Oct. 20, at 4 p.m., Georgia Johnston will present a screening of her opera “TheCollector”at the Norfolk Library. Based on the novel by John Fowles, “The Collector” premiered on May 28 at The Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin, where Johnston is a student. 

Save the Steeple Slideshow
Come and learn about how we can save the steeple on the village green. Join us for an informational slide show about the Church of Christ Congregational’s remarkable steeple on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 5 p.m. at Battell Chapel. This is a new date and time, so that all can come and enjoy wine, cheese, tea and cookies. Hear more about the danger of losing this landmark. Fundraising efforts to save the steeple will begin soon. Meet the Board of Education Candidates
The Norfolk Democratic and Republican Town Committees will sponsor a forum for the Board of Education candidates on Monday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the Norfolk Hub. Tom Hodgkin will be the moderator, and there will also be time to meet the candidates and ask questions. The 6 candidates are (in alphabetical order): Gordon Anderson, Edward Barron, Virginia Coleman-Prisco, John DeShazo, Kevin Gundlach and Donna Rubin.
