Norfolk Land Trust Holds Virtual Race
Out of growing concerns over the Covid-19 virus, the Norfolk Land Trust has decided to hold a virtual race rather than the in-person trail race this year. During the Haystack Challenge, a virtual 5K and 10K-race, participants can register for the race and then run or walk a 5- or 10-K route of their choosing. The virtual race will take place during a one-week period from sunrise on Sept. 12 to sunset on Sept. 20.
While virtual races allow participants to choose their own start time and their own course, participants may run the actual 5- or 10-K course. Maps will be available at the Lovers Lane kiosk at Barbour Woods where the trail race traditionally begins. Land Trust properties remain open to the public, and you are welcome to design your own route using our many wonderful trails. When enjoying the outdoors, the Norfolk Land Trust asks that racers follow social distancing guidelines for the health and safety of all, in alignment with the state orders. Alternatively, you can create your own route based on where you feel most comfortable—trails, roads, or even a treadmill.
Results will be entered through self-reporting. You can do that via Ultrasignup or through reminder e-mails that will be sent out periodically. The deadline for reporting your results is Sept. 20 at noon.
Registration is open now and is available on a sliding scale fee at https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=78350
Everyone who registers for the 2020 trail races will receive a commemorative sticker.
