Norfolk Library Fall Programs
The library has planned a wonderful series of virtual programs for adults and children this fall. Please visit our website at www.norfolklibrary.org to sign up for our weekly e-newsletter, Night Owl, for details and to register. For children ages 7 to11, there is a Monday afternoon dance series with Amber Cameron, a former Rockette, where the children will learn choreography from Mulan; a sweet and savory “Food Explorers” cooking series; a “pumpkins on parade” event to decorate the library windows with pumpkins for Halloween; and crafting mobiles and luminaries for the holidays. For adults, we offer programs on witchcraft and taverns in Connecticut; a celebration of the centennial of Washington Irving’s “Legend of Sleepy Hollow”; Making the Met with curator Laura Corey; a personal tour of Greenwich Village through its literary and artistic history; knitting with Kate Atherley; travels with Gerri Griswold; and an author talk with National Book Award 2020 nominee Christopher Beha.
The library is open with limited services (circulation, copies/faxes, and use of our two computers) Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. “Curbside” porch pick-up is also available.
Norfolk Land Trust Harvest Moon Walk
Come take a look at the harvest moon rising on Friday, Oct. 2, at 6:30 p.m. at Dennis Hill State Park off Route 272 South. Hartley Mead will give a brief talk on the moon and what is visible in the night sky this time of year. Please gather in the parking lot below the Dennis Hill pavilion for the walk to the pavilion. We will social distance. Remember to pack your mask. Also, bring headlamps or some type of illumination and dress warmly. In the event of inclement weather, this will not be rescheduled.

A Walk for Climate Leadership
The Alliance for a Viable Future and the Norfolk United Church of Christ are facilitating a walk for climate leadership on Oct. 12, Indigenous Peoples’ Day (Columbus Day). Join us by assembling outdoors (rain or shine) on the Norfolk town green at noon to hear a brief talk about the history and present-day circumstances of indigenous people living in the watersheds of the Housatonic, Farmington and Connecticut Rivers. The talk will be followed by a walk to Barbour Woods, where designated participants will offer remarks and readings about the role of indigenous people as stewards of the land and how indigenous wisdom can inspire and inform climate leadership. The event is planned to last less than 90 minutes, including the walk. Please register at www.allianceforaviablefuture.org.
