This Year Norfolk Will Come to You
The goal of the Weekend in Norfolk (WIN) committee has always been to encourage people to visit the town and to showcase its culture, beauty and people. This year, however, the committee plans to bring Norfolk to everyone through the creative use of technology.
“We had thought of having a live WIN this year,” says Sue Frisch, WIN chairperson, “but we were concerned that people might still not feel safe. Because many of the winter activities are indoors, we decided to do virtual events again.”
This year’s Winter WIN will be held on February 20 and 21, and many talented people have committed to presenting events such as music concerts, studio tours, a winter photography workshop, a wildlife walk, a guide to Norfolk’s cross country ski trails, music lessons for kids, an architectural tour of Norfolk, Spanish cooking, a curling demonstration and lesson, and an author discussion. In addition, the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department is planning a bonfire at the skating rink – keep it a secret – it’s for locals only. The committee welcomes anyone who would like to propose either a virtual live or a pre-recorded video event to be included in WIN. If you have an idea but don’t know how to actually produce a virtual event, there are people who can assist with the technical end in doing the recording or setting up. Ideas for activities for children are very much encouraged, as are musical presentations. For an example of what a virtual WIN might look like, visit weekendinnorfolk.org.
