Timothy Andrew Münch
Timothy Andrew Münch passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 17. Tim was surrounded by his family in the days leading up to his passing.
Tim was born the oldest of four, to Dr. Richard and Joann Münch, and moved with his family to Norfolk in 1971 at the age of five. Tim embraced every adventure growing up there: Botelle School basketball, Little League, camping with the scouts, marching in the Memorial Day parade, swimming at Tobey Pond, dances and sledding at the Norfolk Country Club, fishing, hunting, and most especially, syrup season.
At age 17, Tim had a tragic accident in which he sustained multiple injuries, including a traumatic brain injury. Rather than letting the accident define his life, Tim went on to graduate from Northwestern Regional 7 High School, study at the University of Connecticut and work at Great Mountain Forest, the Cobb School and the Hillside Equestrian Center.
Tim loved nature and the outdoors. He enjoyed landscaping, and his passion for making maple syrup was life-long, beginning in the family shed, then growing into a sap house he designed and built. Tim truly loved the Norfolk community. He was a basketball coach at Botelle School, a member of the Norfolk Curling Club, an automotive enthusiast who enjoyed the camaraderie at George’s Garage and D & R Auto, and he was a devoted parish member of the Immaculate Conception Church.
Tim’s wit and humor endured, and he persisted in christening everyone he knew with an entertaining nickname. Tim valued family and was a dedicated son, a loving and protective brother and uncle, and an adored grandson, nephew, and cousin by his vast extended family. Tim loved animals and farming, and especially enjoyed visits to his uncle’s farm in Vermont.
Tim is survived by his mother Joann Münch, his father Dr. Richard Münch, siblings Frederick, Jennifer and Elizabeth Münch, brother-in-law Michael Langendoerfer, nephews Barrett and Xavier Langendoerfer, aunts and uncles Andrew and Mary Jane Münch, Jean and Dick Norcott and Patricia Reilly, and a large tribe of cousins. Tim is predeceased by his paternal grandparents Alfred and Rose Münch, his maternal grandparents Peggy and Frank Reilly, his uncles Frederick Münch, Francis Reilly and Richard Salerno, and his aunt Marian Salerno.
Tim’s family is forever grateful to the Norfolk Ambulance and Fire Department for their lifesaving efforts at Tim’s accident, blessing his family with 37 additional years with Tim. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Norfolk Lions Club at P.O. Box 399, Norfolk, Conn., 06058 and the Norfolk Fire Department at 20 Shepard Rd., Norfolk, Conn., 06058. A private funeral service took place at the Immaculate Conception Church in Norfolk on Feb. 27. A burial, memorial service and robust celebration of Tim’s life will take place in the late spring for friends, family and the Norfolk community.
